6/11 Monday still in Watson Lake, raining now

Heard the trucks early this morning with their engines running, then the rain started. Hours later the trucks are still here and so is the rain. I’m guessing the roads were not opened last night, lets see if they open this afternoon. We are going to go to the sign forest again today and hang our sign that we had made in Georgia. It’s the one that says Dave & Jeri Alton with Valentine (was our dog at the time) and Homeless in the U.S.A., when we were full time RVing. Can’t really put out the sign anymore since we aren’t homeless anymore and Valentine is gone. When we went to the “sign forest” the other day I found a sign from Bakersfield, so took a picture and will have to look up the people the next time we are there.

Late Morning/The truckers are still parked and the rain has stopped. We drove into town to find out what is going on and to hang our sign at the Sign Post Forest. We were told the roads are still going to open this afternoon and the produce and fuel trucks are going 1st. Whitehorse is now having to fly their supplies in. Then they said tour buses are on the way and the hotels are going to have to ask the people in them now to leave, so that means the cars go after the trucks. Last is the RVs, 5th wheels and trailers. They advised us to just stay another day, to make sure the road holds up and the traffic clears. As it looks there will be a trail of vehicles miles and miles long, all the way to Whitehorse. It’s going to take a while till everyone breaks up again, in my opinion.

At 3 we went into town to the Northern Lights Centre. We went and watched the show they put on. There were 3 couples in the whole theatre and when it was over an hour later 2 of the men were sound asleep. Dave would have been too but he took a nap before we left. We then stopped at Hougen’s Department Store and I got my souvenir magnet and new hiking boots. My old hiking boots fell apart as soon as we got to the Hot Springs a few days ago. We then went to the grocery store to get eggs, they were all wiped out. They get another shipment of food in tomorrow night. Hopefully we won’t be here and back on the road.

5pm and everyone is still here. Now they aren’t saying anything about when the road will open. The temporary one they had, when a few trucks went over it, it was a no go, didn’t hold up like it was suppose to. When we put our antenna up we get one channel, this morning we watched these stupid cartoons, then a talk show this afternoon. Then we got Jeopardy and now at 5pm we get to watch the Hockey game. Darn Kings better do it tonight.  It isn’t the best picture, that’s for sure, lots of snow in the picture but who cares. Yesterday we watched the dumbest soap opera, boy these actors are bad here. Now we know why all the good Canadian actors/actresses come to the United States.

I can write the blog all day, off line. Then when we run into the Library and get the WIFI password, which is different for everyone that’s when I can post the blog. Also do a quick update to you all on FB. The Library person asks you how long you want to use the internet 1/2 hour, 1 hour, 3 hours, then you are assigned a password for that length of time, strange.

6:30pm looks like the Kings are going to win the Stanley Cup for the 1st time. 4 to 0, can’t see the puck at all on our TV but can kind of see them skating around and the sound is good. Neighbors next to us, our twin RV’ers Chuck and Carol, made Artesian bread on their BBQ. Chuck makes it and Carol cooks it on the BBQ, they do pizza that way too. Would never have thought to make pizza on the BBQ. OK I’m done for the night on posting things. Going to finish fixing dinner, BBQ Pork Chop, rice and spinach.
