6/9/12 Watson Lake Continued

On today's drive the wild animal count was 14 Bison, 6 Black Bears, 1 Moose, 1 Fox and 4 horses.
We got on the road about 7:50am, sun was shining, beautiful weather. We had heard the road was closed up ahead but should be opened when we got there.

We saw 2 Bison right away after leaving Liard River Hot Springs, they were having breakfast. We would go for awhile and not see anything then boom there they are again. We even saw 4 Bison and a Black Bear munching away, of course the Black Bear kept watching the Bison as it ate.The Silver Fox was really neat to see, it was standing in the green grass just looking at the road. If there is an animal out there I will find it. My head is going back and forth all the time, that’s probably why Dave doesn’t want me to drive, besides the point, I stop for all animals.

Anyway, we got to Watson Lake and all we saw were Truckers, 5th wheels, trailers and RVs pulled over and parked and thought “Oh No” the road isn’t opened up yet.  Sure enough they were advising people to go no further. All the RV Parks, in Watson Lake, were full there were more up the road, BUT, the bridge you had to go over to get to them they were expecting, or though maybe could be wiped out. If that should happen then there was no way emergency medical or food supplies could get to you for quite awhile. We decided to stay in Watson Lake, at an RV park that just so happened to close this season, normally it is always opened, but something about the Father and Son, who owned it, fighting over something that’s why they closed it for this season. Big loss on their part, with all these RVs and campers stuck.
We are parked next to a couple that we have seen in the other RV Parks we have stopped at. Their RV looks almost like ours, same color  and almost the same design. They don’t have the big windows on the side and their RV is 1 year older. Their names are Chuck and Carol and they are from New Hampshire. Just retired and have driven in Alaska before in a rented RV for a month, this is their 1st real big trip, or at least they hope it is. Just like we are hoping it is ours!
After dinner Dave and I went walking for a couple miles. We stopped and talked to a Trucker who said he had heard that Whitehorse was running really low on supplies because of all the people stuck there too. He said if and when they get this road fixed they were going to let the truckers through 1st because they are carrying all the supplies. Will just have to wait and see.
