6/12 Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada

Yea, the roads opened up last night around 8pm. We got on the road around 7:30am and at 9:10am we passed the spot where the road was washed out. They made it sound a lot worse then it was. Can’t blame them when the road was underwater because they figured if the water was over the road that must mean the water could be under the road too. It wasn’t and once the water cleared they just had too clear all the dirt, rocks, trees off of the road. Part of the road did get washed away and they did a good job clearing it up. When we ran into town at Whitehorse we saw one of the couples we had met and they had left at 5:30am and they said it was down to one lane when they hit the bad spot. We told them it was 2 lanes when we drove by. Enough of this.

The only animal that Dave saw on the road was a Fox running down the highway. I was looking the other way and missed it. There just wasn’t anything out there while we were driving or that we could see. The drive was OK was surprised we didn’t see a lot of people on the road. They either left before us or after us. We know by the RV Park, now, which is filling up, they were behind us.

At 12:15pm Dave’s phone starting ringing and it was the Republican Party calling looking for Dave and wanting a donation. Dave was driving so I answered and said “We are driving on the Alaska Highway right now and he can talk while driving.” They said Thank you, will call back later.

On our drive today we did see messages made in rocks. These messages were started in 1990 by a Fort Nelson swim team. There were peoples names, saw a couple Kim’s out there, Send Money, Hello ect. You could see a lot of them have been washed away too my nature.

We will stay here in Whitehorse for at least one more day. Ran out of wine and can’t afford the wine here in Canada, the booze either. Pack of cigs are $13.00 thank goodness we don’t smoke anymore. Wine in U.S. $13.00 $36.00 in Canada.

Will update again tomorrow!
